Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat on Monday inspected the Dwaraka RTC Complex and reviewed passenger amenities, cleanliness, infrastructure and maintenance at the city’s principal bus transit hub.
During the visit, he held discussions with RTC Regional Manager P. Appala Naidu and other officials. Noting that the complex caters to nearly one lakh passengers daily, Mr. Sribharat said it played a crucial role in the city’s public transport network.
The MP inspected waiting halls, commercial establishments, restrooms, drinking water facilities and sanitation arrangements. While appreciating the efforts of maintenance personnel in keeping the premises clean, he expressed concern over passengers discarding waste outside designated bins. He stressed the need for greater public awareness and civic responsibility to maintain cleanliness in public spaces.
Mr. Sribharat also reviewed hygiene standards at the canteens functioning within the complex and emphasised adherence to food safety norms to safeguard the health of commuters.
Reviewing passenger information facilities, he observed that bus schedules were currently displayed through static boards and suggested the introduction of digital display systems providing real-time information on arrivals, departures, platform allocations and delays. Such measures, he said, would improve convenience for passengers.
Though the complex was being managed efficiently, Mr. Sribharat noted that aesthetic improvements, infrastructure upgrades and expansion of digital facilities could further enhance the commuter experience. He said the observations made during the visit would be examined and appropriate recommendations considered to develop the Dwaraka RTC Complex into a more modern and passenger-friendly transport facility.
