Delhi residents woke up to cloudy skies and a windy, pleasant morning on Friday (June 12, 2026) as the minimum temperature dropped to 22.8 degrees Celsius after an overnight rain. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature is likely to settle around 34 degrees Celsius. 

The weather office has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall, lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kilometres per hour during the forenoon, afternoon and evening hours.

Mahesh Palawat, vice-president (Meteorology and Climate Change) at Skymet Weather, said pre-monsoon activity is expected to intensify, bringing fairly widespread rainfall across Delhi, Haryana and Punjab.

In Maharashtra, officials said on Thursday (June 11, 2026), “Only two of the eight districts of central Maharashtra’s Marathwada have recorded more than the expected rainfall so far.” With two districts receiving excess rains, the region has received 76.6% of the average rainfall of June to date.

    Himachal Pradesh | Heavy rains lash parts of State; wet spell likely till June 17

    Shimla: Moderate to heavy rains lashed parts of Himachal Pradesh, with the weather office forecasting a wet spell across the State till June 17.

    The weather office also issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 30-50 kmph at isolated places over the next four days.

    Kasauli recorded the highest rainfall of 105 mm, followed by Dharampur (86.6 mm), Dhaulakuan and Bharmaur (43.5 mm each), Palampur (40 mm), Solan (34.6 mm), and Jot and Sarahan (30 mm each).

    Nahan received 26.7 mm of rain, followed by Paonta Sahib (25.2 mm), Narkanda (20.6 mm), and Shimla and Kufri (20 mm each). - PTI

    West Bengal | Reprieve from humidity in sight as IMD predicts thunderstorm in Kolkata, southern Bengal

    The advancing monsoon has brought relief from hot and humid conditions in the southern parts of West Bengal, with the Weather Department predicting thunderstorms and rain in the State capital and some districts of the region on Friday (June 12, 2026).

    The India Meteorological Department has predicted pre-monsoon rain and thunderstorms in southern Bengal and heavy showers in the sub-Himalayan districts in the northern part of the State till June 15.

    It said conditions are favourable for the monsoon to advance into some more parts of West Bengal within the next two to three days.

    North Bengal’s Malda and Haldia in Purba Medinipur district of the south received 66 mm rainfall each, the highest in the State in 24 hours till 8.30 a.m. The other places which received significant rainfall during the period were Bardhaman (60 mm), Bankura (32 mm) and Jhargram (31 mm).

    According to the weather office, Kolkata, Purba, and Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram, Bankra, Purulia, and Paschim Bardhaman are very likely to witness thunderstorms and rain on Friday (June 12, 2026). - PTI

    Rajasthan | Light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms in some parts

    Jaipur: Light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms were witnessed in some parts of Rajasthan even as a couple of places recorded heat wave conditions and warm nights in the 24 hours until 8.30 a.m.

    “Parts of eastern Rajasthan received light to moderate rainfall, while isolated areas in the western region witnessed thunderstorms, gusty winds and light to moderate showers since Thursday (June 11, 2026) morning,” the India Meteorological Department said.

    “Meanwhile, one or two places in the western part of the State witnessed heat wave conditions and warm nights during the period,” the IMD said. 

    Sri Ganganagar tehsil recorded the highest rainfall of 52 mm. Jaisalmer was the hottest place in the State with a maximum temperature of 46 degrees Celsius. “The lowest minimum temperature in the State was recorded in Alwar at 19.5 degrees Celsius,” the IMD said. - PTI

    Delhi | Overnight rain brings minimum temperature down to 22.8 degrees

    Delhi residents woke up to cloudy skies and a windy, pleasant morning on Friday (June 12, 2026) as the minimum temperature dropped to 22.8 degrees Celsius after an overnight rain.

    The city’s base weather monitoring station, Safdarjung, recorded a minimum temperature of 22.8 degrees Celsius, 5.2 notches below normal, marking a sharp 24-hour fall of 7.2 degrees. Among the other stations, Palam recorded a minimum temperature of 21.6 degrees Celsius, 6.5 notches below normal, registering a 24-hour decline of 7 degrees.

    Lodhi Road recorded 22 degrees Celsius, 6 notches below normal, down 6.8 degrees from the previous day. Ridge logged a minimum of 20.9 degrees Celsius, 5.7 notches below normal, witnessing a 24-hour drop of 7.5 degrees, while Ayanagar recorded 22.6 degrees Celsius, 4.9 notches below normal, with the sharpest decline of 8 degrees.

    According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature is likely to settle around 34 degrees Celsius. The weather office has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall, lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 km per hour during the forenoon, afternoon and evening hours.

    Kerala | Communicable diseases rise during monsoon; Shigella cases see sharp increase

    Communicable diseases are spreading in Kerala, and cases of Shigella are being reported from various districts as the monsoon season intensified across the State.

    The Directorate of Health Services data confirms that there were 24 deaths due to various communicable diseases in the State since June 1. The data, updated till June 11, also recorded 12 suspected deaths linked to communicable diseases.

    The figures show that 38 confirmed cases of Shigella infection and one death in the State so far this month. In addition, 20 suspected Shigella cases have been reported in the State. Since January 1, 2026, Kerala has recorded 114 confirmed Shigella cases, 80 suspected cases and two deaths. - PTI
