Protests erupted in Calgary ahead of the arrival of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with demonstrators voicing their opposition to his presence. India is not a member of the G7, and last fall, RCMP accused Modi's government of playing a role in the murder of a Sikh activist in British Columbia. Concurrently, a gathering of nearly 100 supporters from various Indian diaspora communities celebrated Modi's visit, organized by the International Hindu Foundation.
