Thungathurthy Congress MLA Mandula Samuel on Sunday expressed regret over his recent comments that triggered a political storm, particularly drawing severe criticism from BJP leaders, who accused him of making derogatory remarks against Hindu dharma and the Brahmin community.

In a statement, the MLA clarified that he never intended to hurt religious sentiments. “I did not talk badly of the Brahmins. However, if my comments have hurt them, I apologise. If any of my words caused pain, I withdraw those words,” he said. He further alleged that the BJP was attempting to politicise the matter. He added that he along with Brahmins had played a significant role in the initial stages of the Telangana movement and declared that he was intending to put an end to this controversy.
