Mexico's head coach Javier Aguirre was infuriated by speculation that their World Cup Round of 16 clash with England was going to be moved forward by six hours

Mexico boss Javier Aguirre has taken aim at FIFA's attempts to move their World Cup last 16 clash fixture against England at the Azteca to a midday kick-off local time on Sunday.

FIFA are still yet to officially confirm the game has been moved forward six hours due to electrical thunderstorms but Aguirre, speaking prior to talks of a shock U-turn, shared his fury at the way the ordeal has been handled.

He told Spanish-Mexican journalist Joaquin Lopez Doriga on Radio Formula: “That’s right, it’s like a kick in the gut, it changes everything, the plan. It’s not that it’s completely ruined, but almost, because you have to swallow six hours of scheduled training.

"Obviously, we will abide by what FIFA says. I don’t like it at all, nor do my players. Of course, the food, the nap, the sleep, the physiotherapy, everything, everything, it seems trivial, but it isn't.

"Today, 60 people are working here so that these 26 friends can go out on Sunday and win the game, I mean, it's not a small thing, the truth is that the change is quite important and I'll tell you this, well, I can understand reasons and arguments, but they didn't consult me and yes, I'm quite angry."

The game could now, after all, stay at a kick-off time of 6pm local (1am UK).

When asked if the potential change would have given the hosts an advantage at the Azteca Stadium, Aguirre responded emphatically: “Not at all, zero, name, no advantage whatsoever.

"In the contrary, I tell you this is all designed so, since that day in Ecuador we talked, we knew the schedule, we knew the venue, we didn't know the opponent, that's true, but in the end, yes, they screw me over a little, yes, well yes, we have no choice but to abide by what FIFA says."

England were left in the dark as FIFA made the secret plans that were leaked by Mexican journalists and FA chiefs only found out there was a chance for a potential change when they noticed rumours swirling on social media.

Mirror Football also contacted the Mexican Football Federation, who also insisted at the time that they had not been consulted about any potential change.

A number of England fans are also due to arrive in Mexico City from Heathrow Airport on Sunday at 2pm local time, meaning they would miss the game if it was to be brought forward.

The FA was understood to be seriously concerned about the impact any change could have upon England fans, who are travelling from far and wide to see their team in a historic fixture at one of football's great cathedrals.
