Heavy rain is forecast to drench two regions tonight as the Met Office issues a yellow weather warning for heavy rain

The Met Office says two regions of the UK should brace for heavy rain that will bring travel disruption and flooding - even as a third heatwave nears.

Forecasters are warning of adverse weather conditions from 5pm today through to tomorrow (Monday, July 6) morning with downpours set to drench two regions.

Showery spells are also on the cards for much of northern England and parts of Wales tomorrow, but the heaviest downpours are forecast for the Highlands and Eilean Siar as as well as Strathcylde until 10am on Monday.

A yellow alert has been put in place for the region, meaning possible adverse conditions for motorists and potential flooding. Public transport including bus and rail services may also be affected with journey times taking longer.

And the Met Office has warned people need to take action in case of power cuts. A statement said: "People cope better with power cuts when they have prepared for them in advance. It's easy to do; consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items."

The Met Office forecast said: "It will be a wet spell for the West Highlands, with the heaviest and most persistent rain expected from Sunday afternoon through until Monday morning. 20-40 mm is expected widely within the warning area through this period, with 50-75 mm in the most mountainous areas. There is a chance that the most exposed spots could see close to 100 mm. The rain is expected to become less heavy during Monday morning."

Weather maps show northern England and parts of Wales will also see some showers tomorrow morning, including Cheshire, Staffordshire, North Yorkshire, East Riding of Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, County Durham and Gwynedd, Wales.

Meanwhile, WXCharts reveal parts of the country could be facing temperatures of 30C or above for a sweltering six days from Tuesday to Sunday next week - with the Met Office confirming a heatwave is on its way peaking at a potential 34C on Thursday or Friday in the South East.
