Prof. Franco Borruto, President of the Monaco Baltic States Association and internationally recognized expert in women’s health, gynecological oncology and HPV prevention, met in Tbilisi with Dr. Archil Sharashenadze, Head of the Oncogynecology Department at Caucasus Medical Center and Associate Professor at David Tvildiani Medical University.
The meeting brought together two specialists with a strong commitment to advancing gynecological oncology, prevention and medical education, with particular attention to the development of international scientific cooperation in the Caucasus region.
Dr. Archil Sharashenadze is a licensed obstetrician-gynecologist, oncogynecologist and colposcopist. He joined Caucasus Medical Center in 2021 and has since successfully led its Oncogynecology Department. Alongside his clinical responsibilities, he has pursued extensive international training, including a 2016 European School of Oncology course dedicated to gynecological and urogenital cancers.
Since 2018, Dr. Sharashenadze has participated annually in the Congress of the European Society of Gynecological Oncology (ESGO). He is the author or co-author of nearly 20 scientific publications and is actively involved in the training of future physicians as Head of the Surgical Department and Associate Professor at David Tvildiani Medical University. He also leads the Basic Laparoscopic Skills course and is a co-author and permanent moderator of ESGO’s Russian-language webinar project.
His international engagement includes membership of ESGO since 2017 and of the European Network of Young Gynecological Oncologists (ENYGO) since 2019. He served as ENYGO National Representative from 2019 to 2021 and was subsequently reappointed for the 2024–2026 term. Earlier, from 2015 to 2017, he served as local coordinator for European students within the European Society of Gynecology.
Clinically, Dr. Sharashenadze performs approximately 300 surgical procedures and manages around 600 outpatient cases each year, working with a highly qualified multidisciplinary team and benefiting from the advanced medical and technological infrastructure of Caucasus Medical Center.
During their meeting, Prof. Borruto and Dr. Sharashenadze discussed the evolution of modern gynecological oncology, the importance of prevention and early diagnosis, HPV-related disease, advanced diagnostic strategies and the role of international scientific networks in improving women’s health.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to explore possibilities for future collaboration between Georgian and international medical experts, particularly in the fields of gynecological oncology, HPV prevention, medical education and scientific exchange.
Prof. Borruto emphasized the strategic importance of strengthening professional links between Georgia and the wider European medical community. The exchange with Dr. Sharashenadze confirmed the value of Tbilisi as a potential regional platform for scientific dialogue and cooperation in women’s health.
The meeting concluded in a cordial and constructive atmosphere, with both specialists expressing their interest in developing future initiatives that could bring together medical expertise, scientific research and education across national borders.
