Vaibhav Taneja, Indian-origin CFO of Tesla, has now been chosen as the Treasurer and Custodian of Records for the America Party. This marks the formal entry of Elon Musk into American politics. 

Announcing the launch of his party on X, saying the initiative was aimed at restoring "freedom" and disrupting what he described as the country's "one-party system."

"Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom," Musk wrote. "When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy."

Taneja is 47 years old.

• A chartered accountant by education, he also holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Delhi.
• He worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) for more than one and a half decades from 1999 to 2016.
• After this stint with PwC, Taneja joined SolarCity Corporation, a solar energy company, in 2016. 
• After Tesla acquired SolarCity in 2016, Taneja joined Tesla in 2017 as assistant corporate controller. In 2018, he was promoted to Tesla's corporate controller.
• In 2019, he became Tesla's chief accounting officer. 
• In 2021, he was appointed as the director of Tesla India Motors and Energy Private Limited, Tesla's Indian subsidiary. 
• After a couple of years in 2023, Taneja was promoted as chief financial officer (CFO) at Tesla.
