Manchester United have sacked Ruben Amorim after less than 14 months in the job with relationships breaking down with the club's hierarchy, which came after an explosive press conference on Sunday.

Ruben Amorim has been sacked as the Manchester United head coach after just over 13 months in the role after relationships with the club's bosses reached boiling point.

His final match was Sunday's 1-1 draw with Leeds at Elland Road, where he fired shots at some of his superiors in the post-match press conference. Amorim claimed that he wanted more power - taking aim at his head coach title - and also suggested he was ready to leave when his contract expired in 18 months.

The club have since acted and the Athletic claims that Darren Fletcher is set to take over on an interim basis. Ineos sacked Erik ten Hag early last year and pursued the ex-Sporting Lisbon boss, but already his tenure has come to an end.

Amorim has been criticised for his refusal to veer from his philosophy but last year lost in the Europa League final whilst he presided over their worst ever Premier League finish - ending in 15th.

Fletcher in - but who is next?

Another manager axed, another interim. Darren Fletcher is the man to lead the club going forward and it seems as though he could be there for a while.

Reports claim that the club will wait until THE SUMMER to appoint a permanent replacement. That is a long time to hand the reigns to someone who never planned to lead one of the biggest clubs in the world.

So, are we surprised?

Well yes and no. On the face of it his record is that of a manager who would get the chop.

But Man Utd had looked to back their head coach. They could've sacked him last season but stuck by him and there had been green shoots.

Yet here we are again, the Man Utd bosses have chosen to sack a second manager in less than 15 months. Ultimately his press conference yesterday almost gave the club no choice.
