Maharashtra Cybercrime police on Thursday (June 11, 2026) registered an FIR against comedian Pranit More and others concerning the objectionable content circulated on social media. 

The offence has been registered at the Nodal Cyber Police Station, Maharashtra Cyber under section 75(1)(iv), 75(3), 294, 353(2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 and 67 Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000, against stand-up comedian Pranit More, Himanshu Jangra, Dr. Sejal Pawar, and other persons found involved, in connection with the publication and dissemination of allegedly obscene and objectionable content through online platforms and social media, as per the police. 

Maharashtra police lodge complain after the videos of Dr. Sejal Pawar went viral where she made objectionable comments concerning deceased persons and another video where IT professional Himanshu Jangra’s video went for his comment of ‘₹370 biryani’, reflecting his entitlement to physical intimacy in return for money spent on a date with a woman. Both the individuals were the part of audience into different episodes curated by comedian Mr. More. 

Both incidents has cause uproar with National Commission for Women (NCW) taking a suo motu cognisance of the viral video footage concerning an incident during a stand-up comedy show held in Gurugram, Haryana, where remarks allegedly “glorifying sexual coercion and non-consensual conduct towards a woman were publicly made and subsequently applauded”.

NCW Chairperson, Vijaya Rahatkar, has written to the Director General of Police, Haryana, seeking immediate, stringent, and time-bound action. The Commission on Thursday has called for a detailed Action Taken Report (ATR) within seven days.

The Commission has sought details regarding the status of registration of an FIR under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and other applicable laws, action taken against the individuals involved, examination and authentication of the viral video evidence, and the role of the organisers, performers, and venue management in the incident.

NCW has also issued hearing notices to Mr. More and Mr. Jangra, scheduling a hearing in the case on 22 June 2026 at 4:00 p.m. before the Commission.

Dr. Sejal Pawar is an MBBS undergraduate student at KEM. KEM MARD, which resident doctors and postgraduate trainees called the “remarks made by the student inappropriate, do not reflect the values expected of medical professionals, and have understandably caused hurt and concern”. 

She is not a member of KEM MARD, but as as members of the KEM medical fraternity, the MARD stated that, “The student has publicly expressed regret and issued an apology. We believe that the subsequent personal vilification, online abuse, and targeted harassment are neither constructive nor proportionate.”

“Public discourse should remain fair, responsible, and focused on the incident itself, without extending to unrelated issues such as the student’s admission through the reservation quota. As members of the medical fraternity, we support accountability, reflection and learning while ensuring that discussions remain respectful, balanced, and humane,” said, President Dr. Shubham Solanke.
