Luigi Mangione is expected back in a Manhattan courtroom Tuesday for what may be the last pretrial hearing before jury selection begins next month in his closely watched murder case.
Mangione, 28, is accused of fatally shooting UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson and is scheduled to appear in person before Manhattan Supreme Court.
The hearing comes one week after Mangione asked the court to allow a livestream of his murder trial — a rare request in New York, where cameras and broadcasts are generally barred from criminal proceedings.
As part of that push, his legal team also sought expanded media access, arguing that the court should provide a live “overflow” feed inside the courthouse so reporters and members of the public can follow the proceedings in real time.
Justice Gregory Carro has not yet decided whether an overflow room will be made available for the highly anticipated trial.
Jury selection in Mangione’s state murder trial is scheduled to begin Sept. 8. He is also facing a separate federal case.
New York’s state court system has used overflow rooms in major cases before, including President Trump’s historic hush-money trial involving adult-film star Stormy Daniels, which was held in the same courthouse.
Mangione, a prep-school graduate who later attended an Ivy League university, has pleaded not guilty to killing Thompson. Prosecutors have described the December 2024 shooting on a Midtown Manhattan sidewalk as a targeted execution.
