Amid the West Asia crisis, Dehradun District Magistrate Savin Bansal held a meeting in the Collectorate on Thursday to review the availability of LPG gas in the district.

During the meeting, the officials reviewed the status of domestic and commercial gas supply in the district and issued necessary directions to ensure a smooth distribution system.

Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) on Thursday said adequate stocks of Petrol and Diesel are available across Tamil Nadu, and supplies to retail outlets stable.

The statement came amid widespread concerns about the availability of LPG cylinders in the country following the West Asia conflict and the subsequent closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) today shared a glimpse of its operational stability amid the alleged shortage of LPG gas cylinders across the country.

The state-run oil major took to social media on Friday and shared a live snapshot from the ground.

“Normal day. Normal supply. Normal operations. While the world faces its worst energy crisis in modern history — this is what an IndianOil fuel station looks like today. COCO BKC, Mumbai Shot at 10 AM — peak morning hours. No panic. No rush. Just business as usual. Global Crisis. India Delivers”, it said.

A Food supplies department team has recovered 57 cylinders that were stocked illegally at a gas agency in Pune’s Pimpri Chinchwad area amid the crisis, an official told PTI today.

“We found 57 domestic LPG cylinders stocked in the godown without permission. The process to charge the gas agency under Maharashtra Essential Services Maintenance Act has begun,” the official said.

Amid the alleged shortage of Karnataka Food and Civil Supplies Minister KH Muniyappa told the state Legislative Council that supplying commercial cylinders to hotels or restaurants will be difficult for about 7-10 days as there is no stock left.

“For now, there is a supply issue. By and large, the situation will improve and supplies will smoothen after one week. It will be difficult to supply commercial cylinders to hotels for about a week or ten days as there is no stock. If there is stock, 20-25 per cent can be supplied. Companies have assured that whatever is there in stock will be supplied to essential services, and they are supplying,” Muniyappa said.

Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has said that domestic LPG supply across the country remains stable, urging consumers to avoid panic.

In a post on ‘X’, the HPCL emphasised it is working relentlessly to ensure uninterrupted availability and doorstep delivery of HP Gas cylinders.

Executive President, All India LPG Distributors Federation PN Seth, on Tuesday, said there is no shortage of LPG cylinders.

Speaking to ANI, Seth said, “There is no shortage, and the supply of commercial and domestic cylinders is going as it used to before. The domestic sector is the top priority. We are meeting with distributors and all stakeholders”.

Petroleum Ministry officials have urged citizens not to panic over LPG availability, urging them to avoid standing in long queues at distributors’ offices, according to a report by India Today.

They said cylinders can be easily booked online and that consumers do not need to visit gas agencies in person.

Amid the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, Telangana govt has formed committees at state and district level to monitor the supply of LPG cylinders.

State Level Energy Supply Monitoring Committee shall:

1. Continuously review the LPG supply position in coordination with Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs).

2. Monitor LPG stock position at bottling plants, storage depots and distribution points across the State.

3. Review the movement and distribution of LPG cylinders to ensure uninterrupted supply to consumers.

4. Coordinate with the Police Department for maintenance of law and order at LPG bottling plants and storage facilities by deploying RDOs/DSP rank officers.

5. Facilitate police escort to LPG transport vehicles wherever required, to ensure safe and timely transportation.

6. Daily situation report on Law and order to be furnished by DGP, TG to State Level Energy Supply Monitoring Committee in the prescribed format (Annexure-II).

7. Oil Marketing Companies to provide daily situation report in the prescribed format (Annexure -III).

8. Take necessary Legal action for prevention of diversion or unauthorized use of LPG cylinders.

9. Review supply constraints, if any, and advise the Government on measures required to ensure adequate LPG availability in the State.

10. I&PR to issue regular press briefings and releases to print electronic and social media. Fact check & Counter misinformation on social, electronic and print media.

11. Provide periodic appraisal and recommendations to the Government regarding LPG supply management.

The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has written to Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri seeking uninterrupted LPG supply to ensure smooth flow of langar services at gurdwaras.

The DSGMC highlighted the ongoing West Asia conflict has affected LPG supply, affecting community kitchens and small gurudwaras who rely on gas cylinders.

The Paharganj-based outlet of Sita Ram Diwan Chand announces closure due to LPG shortage. On Thursday, they had shut down their other two outlets in Delhi.

“Due to the shortage of commercial LPG cylinders, our Paharganj outlet is currently closed”, the statement read.

The widespread panic over LPG supplies in India followed the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran — one of the world’s most crucial maritime chokepoints — as a retaliatory measure against the February 28 coordinated US-Israeli strikes against Tehran.

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which accounts for around one fifth of the world’s oil trade, has tightened global energy supplies.

Addressing concerns around the availability of LPG cylinders in the country, Rajesh Kumar Sinha, Shipping Ministry said, “LPG carrier vessels have been accorded priority berthing at major ports.”

The Central Government on Friday addressed the concerns regarding the availability of LPG cylinders in the country amid a disruption in the energy supply following the Iran war.

Asserting there is no need to panic, Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum, said, “Petrol and diesel are available in adequate quantities at all petrol pumps… Regarding LPG, I would like to state that this remains a matter of concern for us. Nevertheless, despite this situation, no dry out has been reported at any of our 25,000 distributors. I would like to appeal to all fellow citizens not to give credence to rumors and to refrain from engaging in panic buying”.

Amid the West Asia crisis, the Centre on Friday emphasised that the domestic production of LPG has increased by 30 per cent.

Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum, said, “Domestic production of LPG has increased by 30 per cent”, urging the public to avoid panic booking of LPG.

The remarks came amid widespread concerns about the availability of LPG cylinders amid the disrupted energy supply following the Iran war.

The Central Government on Friday acknowledged that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz remains a “small matter of concern”, there’s no need for consumers to worry about the situation.

“It is a small matter of concern but despite that no dry out has been reported. Do not believe in rumours or indulge in panic buying”, said Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum.

She stressed actions are being taken against black marketing and hoarding.

The Central Government on Friday affirmed there is no need to panic amid the alleged shortage of the LPG in the country following the West Asia conflict.

“We are self-sufficient in the production of petrol and diesel. Our refineries are working at 100 per cent capacity. There is no need to panic. PNG connection, commercial connections should contact city gas distribution network”, Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum, said.

Opposition parties on Friday urged the central government to take steps to address the alleged shortage of LPG cylinders across the country.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lashed out at the opposition, accusing it of spreading misinformation regarding the availability of cooking gas in the country. He also appealed to the State Governments to enhance monitoring to curb black-marketing and hoarding of cylinders.

A man died of a heart attack while waiting in a long queue for an LPG cylinder at Sehna village in Punjab’s Barnala district on Friday morning, according to a report by TNN.

The incident was reported amid widespread panic buying of fuel and cooking gas amid the West Asia crisis.

The Delhi Police on Friday cautioned residents against clicking on suspicious links or trusting calls from unknown numbers claiming to be from gas agencies.

The police warned cyber fraudsters may exploit the panic around LPG availability to trick people. In a post on X, the police highlighted rumours about a shortage of LPG cylinders were being used by cyber criminals to lure people through fraudulent links or calls.

Around 40 per cent of restaurants in Kerala have been forced to close due to an acute LPG shortage, as many establishments are unable to shift to alternative cooking arrangements, PTI reported.

Industry representatives said the disruption has also hit caterers, hostels, canteens and crematoriums, with supplies affected in the wake of the West Asia conflict.
