 Domestic LPG prices increased by Rs 60 per cylinder on March 7, marking the second price hike within a year. The rise comes amid a sharp surge in global energy prices following coordinated military strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran that began on February 28. The Centre directed all states and Union Territories to closely monitor LPG supplies on a daily basis, take strict action against violators, prevent the spread of rumours, and maintain law and order amid public concerns about a possible shortage of LPG cylinders due to the escalating crisis in West Asia.

Domestic Cooking Gas Gets Costlier: Domestic LPG prices increased by Rs 60 per cylinder on March 7, marking the second price hike within a year. The rise comes amid a sharp surge in global energy prices following coordinated military strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran that began on February 28. The Centre directed all states and Union Territories to closely monitor LPG supplies on a daily basis, take strict action against violators, prevent the spread of rumours, and maintain law and order amid public concerns about a possible shortage of LPG cylinders due to the escalating crisis in West Asia.

India LPG Gas Cylinder Shortage News Live Updates: Concerns over disruption in LPG supplies linked to the West Asia conflict have sparked panic bookings and long queues at gas distribution outlets.

Consumers in several cities reported repeated glitches in booking platforms, including IVRS numbers, mobile applications and WhatsApp services, many of which showed “server down” messages as traffic surged.

Distributors said booking requests jumped nearly tenfold, straining systems not built to handle such a sudden spike in demand.

The impact has begun to ripple through the services sector as well. In the national capital, several malls have advised restaurants to conserve fuel and operate with reduced gas usage.

The government, however, has sought to reassure the public, urging people not to panic. C Senthil Rajan, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, said oil companies continue to deliver about 50 lakh LPG cylinders daily despite the crisis, and that overall supplies remain stable.

Meanwhile, police in multiple states have increased monitoring to curb rumours, hoarding and illegal trading of cylinders.

A Food supplies department team has recovered 57 cylinders that were stocked illegally at a gas agency in Pune’s Pimpri Chinchwad area amid the crisis, an official told PTI today.

“We found 57 domestic LPG cylinders stocked in the godown without permission. The process to charge the gas agency under Maharashtra Essential Services Maintenance Act has begun,” the official said.

“For now, there is a supply issue. By and large, the situation will improve and supplies will smoothen after one week. It will be difficult to supply commercial cylinders to hotels for about a week or ten days as there is no stock. If there is stock, 20-25 per cent can be supplied. Companies have assured that whatever is there in stock will be supplied to essential services, and they are supplying,” Muniyappa said.

1. Continuously review the LPG supply position in coordination with Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs).

2. Monitor LPG stock position at bottling plants, storage depots and distribution points across the State.

3. Review the movement and distribution of LPG cylinders to ensure uninterrupted supply to consumers.

4. Coordinate with the Police Department for maintenance of law and order at LPG bottling plants and storage facilities by deploying RDOs/DSP rank officers.

5. Facilitate police escort to LPG transport vehicles wherever required, to ensure safe and timely transportation.

6. Daily situation report on Law and order to be furnished by DGP, TG to State Level Energy Supply Monitoring Committee in the prescribed format (Annexure-II).

7. Oil Marketing Companies to provide daily situation report in the prescribed format (Annexure -III).

8. Take necessary Legal action for prevention of diversion or unauthorized use of LPG cylinders.

9. Review supply constraints, if any, and advise the Government on measures required to ensure adequate LPG availability in the State.

10. I&PR to issue regular press briefings and releases to print electronic and social media. Fact check & Counter misinformation on social, electronic and print media.

11. Provide periodic appraisal and recommendations to the Government regarding LPG supply management.
