Homegrown activewear brand cheak has launched its first physical boutique store at ION Orchard today (Oct 24).

Spanning close to 900 sqft, the space is located in Basement 3 and marks the debut of the first Singapore-founded athleisure brand at the mall.

Founded in 2020 by friends and avid sportswomen Olivia Yiong and Tiffany Chng, cheak offers “high-quality, affordable athleisure wear tailored to the body shapes and types of Asian women.”

The founders said that their proprietary fabrics are specially created to fit Asian women while keeping them cool in the tropical climates of Asia.

At the store, customers can find a comprehensive collection of cheak’s offerings, including best-sellers such as the Define Invisible Scrunch Shorts. The brand also introduced several of these pieces in a refreshed colour palette in celebration of its 5th anniversary.

By opening the outlet at ION, cheak also hopes to expand its customer base. While its current audience is mostly younger shoppers, the brand aims to attract tourists and an older demographic with this new location.

“Every decision we make takes a lot of consideration in how we can scale cheak meaningfully,” Olivia shared.

Ultimately, the brand’s goal is to give all customers the chance to fully experience its range and signature fabrics firsthand—something that was previously limited to a small selection available at Love, Bonito’s outlets across Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines.

Love, Bonito is the sister brand of cheak, which acquired the activewear brand in 2022. Prior to the acquisition, cheak operated under the name “butter.” and was already performing well, achieving S$500,000 in revenue with just five products and projecting a 138% year-on-year growth rate.

Moving forward, expansion of physical stores is definitely on the cards. cheak is already testing the waters in overseas markets, with a pop-up in Malaysia running since Sept. It is also considering holding a pop-up in the Philippines in the near future.
