Vilnius – On Monday 12 October 2026, the Lithuanian singer-songwriter Justinas Stanislovaitis offi‐ cially releases the song and music video “Leaves in the Wind” (in Lithuanian, “Vėjo Blaškomi”). The song comes from his music-theatre performance “Where the Sound Remained” (“Kur liko garsas”), a post-apocalyptic story about a man who, at the end of the world, must finally face the question he has spent his whole life avoiding.
The performance is set in an imagined apocalyptic landscape. The cities are empty, the power has failed, and people fight to survive – for warmth, for food, for somewhere safe to pass the night. In such a world everything must justify its weight: what to carry, what to leave behind. And yet one musician sets out with the bare essentials – and a guitar.
That small gesture becomes the question at the heart of the piece. What is a song for when the only task left is to stay alive? What remains of a musician with no stage and no audience? “Am I worth any‐ thing if no one is listening? Am I valuable without approval?” The questions echo through an aban‐ doned concert hall where people once rose from their seats to applaud – and where now there are only empty chairs, darkness and the low flicker of a fire.
“Where the Sound Remained” explores the origin, essence and meaning of the human need for recog‐ nition: where the longing to be seen comes from, what recognition truly is, and what it means. Is our worth measured in applause, ratings and the gaze of others – or was it given to us before the first per‐ formance ever began? It is not a question reserved for those on stage. In one form or another, almost everyone asks it today, whatever their work – teacher or doctor, programmer or builder: am I of any value when no one notices what I do?
“Leaves in the Wind” is one of six original songs in the performance, each arriving at the point where words are no longer enough. Its chorus sounds almost like an answer the singer offers himself:
Maybe we’re just leaves in the wind,
Dreaming where the blue skies begin.
Still we rise while we can,
Leaving our light where we land.
The music video opens onto a cinematic world of muted, earthy colours: a journey across open country, fire and wind, and translucent memories drifting through the frame – the things that stay with a per‐ son even when everything around them has fallen apart.
The song is released in both English and Lithuanian. It is also the way into Stanislovaitis’s chamber concert programme “Between Silence and Light”, in which his original songs stand alongside his own interpretations of songs by Leonard Cohen, Sting, Nick Cave and Peter Gabriel. On stage: Justinas Stanislovaitis (voice, acoustic guitar) and Martynas Vaičekauskas (accordion, keys and lumzdelis, the traditional Lithuanian wooden flute). Concerts are planned in Riga, Gdańsk, Toruń and Vilnius – dates and venues are to be announced shortly at justinasstanislovaitis.lt.
