Prime Minister Narendra Modi cautioned newly elected NDA Rajya Sabha MPs against falling prey to the “intrigues in Delhi” and urged them to learn from all parliamentarians, including those in the Opposition, during their tenure in the Upper House.

At an interaction on Wednesday (August 5, 2026), as the Monsoon Session continued to remain logjammed over the way the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led GenZ protests were led, Prime Minister Modi hosted 37 newly elected Rajya Sabha MPs for breakfast.

Among the tips shared by the Prime Minister was a caution about the “web of intrigues” in the Lutyens’ Zone of Delhi.

“Be mindful of whom you meet and where you meet. Delhi is a dangerous place,” he is reported to have said to the MPs. The caution was an echo of a similar warning to NDA MPs during the alliance’s parliamentary party meet after the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. In that speech delivered in the Central Hall of the then Parliament building, Mr. Modi had said that first-time MPs might meet many people eager to serve them, and later these very people could lead to their downfall—the allusion was to not getting caught among middlemen. On Wednesday, the Prime Minister reiterated the advice.

BJP President Nitin Nabin is among the new MPs who joined the Upper House for the first time following the June elections.

Mr. Modi also instructed the MPs to guard against the misuse of their letterhead and to avoid being rude to people on the phone, and urged them to learn from all fellow parliamentarians, including those in the Opposition.

Responding to questions about his personal routine, the PM told the group that he falls asleep within eight seconds of getting into bed and that he sleeps for only three hours.

He added that it is important to live in the moment to get optimum results. “Right now, I am with you, so I am not thinking about anything else. I think about and live in the moment I am in,” he is reported to have said.

Those who attended the meeting included newly elected party leaders Tarun Chugh and Vinod Tawde, and former AAP leaders Swati Maliwal, Raghav Chadha, Ashok Mittal, Sandeep Pathak and Vikramjit Singh Sahney.
