Collingwood and Hawthorn have incredibly drawn for the second time this season in an all-time finish at the MCG.

Hawks forward Dylan Moore, who kicked a goal to tie the match in round eight against the Magpies, failed to make the distance when he kicked after the siren on Saturday night.

It was the first time the same teams have drawn against each other in the one season in VFL/AFL history.

Kicking from 40m out on a tight angle, Moore's kick was in the air when the siren sounded, but fell short and was knocked back into play.

It meant scores were square at 13.14 (92) each, just one point off the tied result earlier in the season, stunning all players and those watching.

Although Hawthorn would be disappointed not to walk away with all four points, its top-four spot should still be secure as long as it defeats West Coast next week.

A loss would have tipped them out of the top four this round and almost certainly ended their chances of a double-chance.

Down by 22 points at halftime after conceding five straight goals in the second quarter, the Hawks were a different team in the third term.

Ahead by just three points at the final change, Hawthorn traded blows with Collingwood in a dramatic final term.

The Hawks kicked the first three goals of the final quarter to grab a 21-point advantage, before Collingwood hit back with four quick majors of their own to reclaim the lead.

Brownlow Medal favourite Nick Daicos was the leading possession winner on the ground with 36 (also kicking a goal), while his brother Josh also had a significant influence on the result.

Unheralded Hawks midfielder Josh Ward enjoyed a superb final term, booting two goals in a minute and finishing with six clearances for the match.

Already secure in the finals, Collingwood's slim hopes of pushing into the top six are over after this result.

The Magpies will almost certainly finish eighth ahead of the wildcard round, with reigning premiers Brisbane to come at the MCG on Friday night to end their home-and-away season.

Melbourne has surged to fifth spot on the AFL ladder with a 76-point win over Port Adelaide, but forward Jacob van Rooyen faces a nervous MRO wait after collecting Aliir Aliir in the Power defender's 200th game.

The Demons started Saturday night in seventh spot, but they're now just outside the top four on percentage after recording a thumping 20.12 (132) to 8.8 (56) victory at Adelaide Oval.

The big talking point was the van Rooyen incident, with the Demons spearhead set to face MRO scrutiny with the finals just a few weeks away.

The Melbourne forward was attempting to spoil an Aliir mark in the second term, but appeared to mistime it and he struck the Power defender high with a swinging arm.

Alilir, who went down and had to be helped off the field by trainers, failed his HIA test and spent the rest of his milestone game watching from the bench.

Demons skipper Max Gawn dominated with 25 disposals and 22 hit-outs, while Bayley Fritsch and Kade Chandler kicked four goals apiece.

For Port Adelaide, Brownlow medallist Ollie Wines had 31 possessions and Mitch Georgiades booted four majors.

Early on, the Power had four of the first five clearances of the game, but it was all Melbourne right from the outset.

Four consecutive goals to start the game — from van Rooyen, Tom Sparrow, Bailey Laurie and Chandler in his 100th game — made for a very quiet Adelaide Oval.

Georgiades soon had Port Adelaide's first goal, but three consecutive Melbourne goals — including a sharp dribbling snap goal by Chandler — saw the Demons leading by 36 points at the first change.

A bake by Power coach Josh Carr at quarter-time had the desired response, with his side booting the first two goals of the second term.

A highlight for Power fans was a huge leap by Georgiades, who narrowly spilled what would likely have been the mark of the year had it stuck.

Port supporters had little else to cheer about as the Demons maintained a six-goal buffer at the main break.

Melbourne piled on the goals in the second half, leading by 53 points at the last change and kicking a further five goals in the final term.

I thought McCreery was outstanding in the final quarter. McRae put him into the middle of the ground and he was dynamic with his run and carry.

He finished with nine disposals, five tackles, four score involvements and three clearances in the final term alone.

Also an honourable mention to Sam Swadling, who finished with 29 disposals and the match-saving spoil.

We mentioned at half-time that Melbourne would like to kill the game in the third quarter, and that's exactly what they did, and it ends up with a massive percentage-booster.

The race of the top four is going to be absolutely fascinating now.

Today's results mean all three of Brisbane, Hawthorn and Melbourne are level on points heading into the final round.

Brisbane has the superior percentage of 119.5, while there are literal hairs splitting Hawthorn (117.3) and Melbourne (117.2).
