“Classic 1950s Latin American theater stage setting, actors in vintage mid-century Costa Rican attire singing around a retro microphone, warm theatrical lighting, elegant artistic photo style.”

Art and solidarity come together on the Costa Rican stage with the highly anticipated premiere of “La Gran Herencia”, a local musical production that promises to move audiences while turning every ticket sold into a vital opportunity for social support.

From July 27 to 30, the Lucho Barahona Theater will become the stage for this play, which not only pays tribute to the country’s rich musical and cultural heritage, but will also donate all proceeds to benefit 120 vulnerable children.

Set in the mid-20th century, the storyline of “La Gran Herencia” transports spectators back to Costa Rica in 1952, an era marked by profound social transformation and vibrant cultural energy.

Through meticulous period set design, historical costumes, and a narrative filled with nostalgia and humor, the production explores the value of traditions, Costa Rican identity, and the importance of cultural legacy passed down through generations.

The production brings together an outstanding cast of Costa Rican actors, singers, and musicians, who bring to life a repertoire highlighting key pieces of popular folklore and iconic national musical compositions.

Direction and Technical Production: The show features a live ensemble accompanying the vocal performances, delivering a dynamic and high-level artistic performance.

Preserving Musical Memory: The musical serves as a showcase to honor the great authors and performers who shaped the country’s musical history.

Beyond its entertainment and cultural preservation value, the core pillar of this initiative is its charitable mission. Every ticket purchased for the performances at the Lucho Barahona Theater directly translates into comprehensive support and resources for 120 children.

“Theater has a unique ability to move people while making a real difference in the community. ‘La Gran Herencia’ was born from the conviction that culture can serve as a direct driver for social change.”

Venue: Lucho Barahona Theater, San José, Costa Rica.

Dates: July 27 to July 30.

Cause: Proceeds go to benefit 120 Costa Rican children.

“La Gran Herencia” stands out as a must-see event on the late July cultural calendar. It is a perfect opportunity to enjoy local Costa Rican talent, reconnect with the nation’s musical roots, and lend a helping hand to those who need it most.
