Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayAfter three years, Karen Read has been found not guilty of the second-degree murder of her late boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe. After 22 hours of deliberations since last week, the decision was finalized Wednesday in a Dedham, Mass. court. Read faced murder charges in June 2022 after allegedly hitting O’Keefe with an SUV and leaving him for dead in January of that year. Read’s lawyers have long asserted she was framed by police after dropping O’Keefe off at a party at the home of a fellow officer. It was argued that Read hit O’Keefe with her SUV before driving away, but the defence maintained he was killed inside the home before being dragged outside – suggesting the death was a conspiracy orchestrated by Boston police officers. An initial two-month trial ended last July, when jurors were unable to reach a unanimous decision. While a judge determined Read was not guilty of murder in the highly-publicized retrial Wednesday, she was instead found guilty of operating under the influence. She has been sentenced to one year of probation.
