Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayJames Gunn has responded to rumours about casting Adria Arjona as Wonder Woman in the DCU.
In a recent interview with Extra, DC Studios co-head Gunn addressed the growing speculation sparked by his following of Arjona on Instagram.
“I follow Adria on Instagram, but everybody came out [and said], ‘He just followed her, that means she’s Wonder Woman.'” Gunn said. “She’d be a great Wonder Woman, by the way.”
Gunn clarified that he and Arjona have known each other for many years, having worked together on The Belko Experiment in 2016, which he wrote and produced. “We’ve been friends and have known each other since that time. I followed her then, I didn’t just follow her [now].”
Earlier this year, Arjona addressed similar rumours in an interview with CinemaBlend, commenting on her connection to Gunn: “I love James Gunn. He gave me my first movie ever, which was like my first studio movie, so I owe him a lot.”
When asked if his Instagram follow meant anything, Arjona responded with a smile and crossed her fingers, adding, “I don’t know.”
If cast as Wonder Woman, Arjona would follow Gal Gadot, who originated the role in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Gadot reprised the role in multiple DC films, including Wonder Woman, Justice League and Wonder Woman 1984 . She also made cameos in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash.
The live-action leg of Gunn’s revamped DC Universe kicks off next week with Superman, the first film in the Chapter One: Gods and Monsters series. It will be followed up by Supergirl next year.
Superman opens in UK cinemas on July 11th.
