Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwaySupergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has a new title according to DC Studios co-head James Gunn.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Gunn revealed that the films title was no longer Woman of Tomorrow, but has been changed to just Supergirl. Gunn explained that the reason for the name change on both this film and upcoming Superman, which was originally titled Superman: Legacy, is a result of DC Studios’ “premortem” process:
“A premortem is you get together with your group that’s doing the project. It’s usually about a couple months before shooting, and you go, hypothetically, “If it’s an epic disaster, what are the things that we’re doing today that are going to cause it to be an epic disaster? Everyone here can speak freely.”
Gunn explained that he already had concerns about the films original title that were echoed by the group:
“First of all, I’m sick of the superhero title, colon, other-name thing. And then also it seemed to be looking back when we’re looking forward, even though it does have to do with legacy in the movie itself. And everybody was like, “Oh, yeah, no, change it.”
Based on the graphic novel Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow written by Tom King, Supergirl is set to star House of The Dragon star Milly Alcock in the titular role of Kara Zor-El/Supergirl. Starring alongside her will be Matthias Schoenaerts, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham and more. The film will be the second entry in James Gunn’s new DCU universe, and will be led by I, Tonya (2017) and Cruella (2021) director Craig Gillespie.
Supergirl releases worldwide on June 26, 2026.
