Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayAmidst promotion for his own DCU debut, filmmaker James Gunn has revealed exciting news for Batman fans. Matt Reeves’ script for the long-awaited sequel to 2022’s The Batman is finally complete.
At the world premiere of Superman, the filmmaker took to the red carpet and confirmed he’s read Reeves’ script: “It’s great.”
Reeves ignited further interest last month by sharing a picture of the script’s cover page, with the Bat symbol on full display. The Batman Part II’s delays have been subject to criticism, although Gunn made his allegiance to Reeves clear: “get off Matt’s nuts.”
Reeves himself has offered comfort to eager fans, confirming back in January that the sequel will film this year. The director told Deadline “we’re doing something where the story continues from, but I hope that people will be surprised by.”
James Gunn has his new film, Superman, premiering July 11th, will launch an all-new DC universe, setting in motion the saga’s “Gods and Monsters” phase. (STAY TUNED FOR OUR REVIEW OF SUPERMAN LATER THIS WEEK!!)
It exists in a separate continuity from Reeves’ “Batman Epic Crime Saga,” which includes The Batman (2022) and HBO’s spinoff The Penguin.
In the first film, Batman (Robert Pattinson) is called to intervene when the mayor of Gotham City is murdered. Soon, his investigation leads him to uncover a web of corruption linked to his own dark past, as well as trading blows with The Riddler (Paul Dano), Oz Cobb/The Penguin (Colin Farrell), Catwoman (Zoe Kravitz) and more.
The Batman Part II is set to premiere on October 1, 2027.
