An introduction to the philosophy of Jacques Derrida (1930-2004). The lecture provides an overview of Derrida’s key works and philosophical legacy. Particular focus is given to: 1) Derrida’s deconstruction of structuralism in the essay “Structure, Sign and Play” (1966); 2) Derrida’s philosophy of difference in the essay “Différance” (1968); 3) outlining Derrida’s “Deconstruction” as a method for interpreting texts; and 4) describing an example of a deconstruction of Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels.
