The incident took place at the Bergamo Airport in Milan, Italy, at around 10:20 am local time, local media reported.
The horrific accident led to the suspension of operations at the airport from immediately after the incident till 12 noon local time (8:20-10:00 am GMT), according to reports.
The incident took place while the flight was preparing for takeoff.

According to airport operating agency SACBO, operations were halted temporarily, citing "a problem that occurred on the taxiway".
SACBO also said that the cause of the incident was being investigated by relevant authorities and details were awaited.
Flight operations resumed from the transit hub at around midday local time, according to local media.

Milan Airport Accident | Flight was Spain-bound
The flight was operated by airline Volotea using an Airbus A319 aircraft. It was headed to the Asturias Airport, Spain.
At the time of the accident, it was taxiing its way out of the parking area, local media reported.
The man reportedly ran onto the tarmac as the plane was exiting the parking area to move to the runway.
At the time of publishing this report, it could not be immediately ascertained whether the person was a passenger or airport staff.
According to information available on flight tracking platform Flightradar24, at least 19 flights were cancelled after the incident.
The Milan airport accident comes less than a month after the Ahmedabad tragedy, in which Air India Flight 171 crashed into a nearby town shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, leaving only one survivor.
