US President Donald Trump threatened to “obliterate” Iran's power grid if they do not reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours.

In a furious Truth Social post on Wednesday, the US President said: “If Iran doesn’t FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 HOURS from this exact point in time, the United States of America will hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST."

His warning comes as Israel claims Iran could strike as far as London, Paris, and Berlin.

Iran launched attacks on the UK's Diego Garcia base in the Chagos Islands, showing that Tehran's forces can aim at targets much further than previously thought. I

ran's representative to the International Maritime Organization, Ali Mousavi, has said vessels - except those belonging to what he described as "enemies" - may pass through the Strait of Hormuz if they coordinate in advance with Iranian authorities to ensure safety and security.

How far is Diego Garcia from Iran? Strategic UK-US base explained

Diego Garcia lies around 3,800km (2,360 miles) from Iran, making it one of the longest-range targets linked to the current escalation. The strategically important base - home to about 2,500 mainly American personnel - has been used for decades as a launch point for military operations across the Middle East.

The Ministry of Defence condemned the attempted strike, saying "Iran’s reckless attacks… are a threat to British interests and British allies."

The incident comes after the UK allowed the United States to use British bases for "specific and limited defensive operations" targeting Iranian missile sites linked to attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi warned Britain was putting lives "in danger" and said Tehran would "exercise its right to self-defence."

Housing Secretary declined to say how close missiles came to UK-US base

Steve Reed has declined to give details on how close Iran’s long-range missiles may have come to reaching the Diego Garcia base.

The Housing Secretary also indicated that Israeli claims about Iran developing missiles capable of striking Europe may be overstated. Speaking on the BBC’s Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg programme, he said:

“There is no specific assessment that the Iranians are targeting the UK or even could, if they wanted to.

“We have the finest military in the world. We are perfectly capable of protecting this country.”

Mr Reed described the Israel Defence Forces’ warning as “conditional”, adding that “there is no assessment to substantiate what’s being said”.

Iranian military-linked media warns Western governments 'it's too late'

Iranian military-linked media has issued a strongly worded warning on social media amid the escalating conflict, appearing to criticise Western governments over their role in recent developments.

The post translated as

"We had previously told you fools that if the roof of the house collapses, it will come crashing down on the heads of all family members, but you wouldn't listen.

"Now you're also posting these tweets to soothe your conscience that you bear no blame in this affair! It's too late.. Keep shedding your crocodile tears; Trump's response is with us!"

UK has defences to keep country safe amid Iran missile fears, minister says

A UK government minister has said defence systems are in place to protect Britain following Israeli claims that Iranian missiles could potentially reach major European cities.

Housing Secretary Steve Reed said he would not comment on Iran’s specific capabilities but insisted: “We have systems and defences in place that keep the United Kingdom safe, and that will continue to happen.”

He added the Government believes Iran fired two missiles towards the Diego Garcia base, with one failing and the other intercepted, while reiterating the UK will take necessary defensive action but “is not going to be dragged into this war.”

More than 160 people wounded in strike on Israeli towns

More than 160 people have been wounded, including several in a serious condition, Israeli emergency services have said.

Officials reported that 84 casualties were taken for treatment in Arad and a further 78 in Dimona after ballistic missiles struck the towns on Saturday evening. Both locations are situated near a nuclear research site.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said it had no information suggesting the facility, located about eight miles (13km) outside Dimona, had been damaged.

Iranian state television said the strikes were carried out in retaliation for an earlier attack on Iran's Natanz nuclear plant, where the IAEA also reported no rise in radiation levels outside the site.

Iranian MP Alaeddin Boroujrrdi has reported on Iran State Media that "some of the ships that pass for any reason" through the Hormuz Strait are charged with a "two-million-dollar fee" by Iran.

He added that "war has costs."

'US blown Iran off the map'

Strait of Hormuz open to all except Iran's enemies, says Iranian official

Iran's representative to the International Maritime Organization, Ali Mousavi, has said vessels - except those belonging to what he described as "enemies" - may pass through the Strait of Hormuz if they coordinate in advance with Iranian authorities to ensure safety and security, according to the semi-official Mehr news agency.

He emphasised that global maritime obligations should be accompanied by respect for Iran’s territorial integrity and sovereign rights, adding that Tehran is willing to work with the IMO and other nations to improve maritime safety and safeguard seafarers.

"Diplomacy remains Iran's priority. However, a complete cessation of aggression as well as mutual trust and confidence are more important,” Mousavi said, adding that U.S. and Israeli attacks against Iran were at the "root of the current situation in the Persian Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz."

IDF map claiming potential range of Iranian ballistic missiles

Israel's military says Iran has launched a long-range missile capable of travelling about 4,000km, marking a major escalation in its capabilities.

The IDF claims Tehran has long sought to develop missiles with this range, which could threaten dozens of countries across Europe, Asia and Africa.

It warned the development shows Iran poses a "global threat", with cities such as London, Paris and Berlin potentially within reach.

Chagos Islands missile attempt, 'changed calculus of the war', expert warns

Iran reportedly fired two ballistic missiles towards the joint UK-US military base on Diego Garcia in the Chagos Islands, in what officials say is one of the longest-range launches linked to the current conflict. US sources said neither missile struck the base, with one believed to have failed mid-flight and the other intercepted by a US warship.

Muhanad Seloom, a lecturer at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, said the incident "changes the calculus" for the United States.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, he said:

"These missiles to Diego Garcia means Iran has 4,000km [2,490 miles] plus ballistic missiles – and that hasn’t been revealed before. All reports before that said Iran had a 2,000km range [1,240 miles] and not beyond that.

"If you reverse the direction of these missiles, then they could reach London, so that changes the calculus not only for the US and its justification for the war, but also for a reluctant London and European Union to join the war."

Iran’s foreign minister issues a stark warning to UK government

Iran's foreign minister Abbas Araghchi has issued a stark warning to the UK government, accusing Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer of putting British lives at risk by allowing US forces to use British military bases during the escalating conflict with Israel and Iran.

In a post on social media platform X, Araghchi claimed most Britons oppose involvement in the war and said Tehran would respond under its "right to self-defence."

Vast majority of the British People do not want any part in the Israel-U.S. war of choice on Iran.

Ignoring his own People, Mr. Starmer is putting British lives in danger by allowing UK bases to be used for aggression against Iran. Iran will exercise its right to self-defense.

Israel makes claim about Iran's missile reach

Israel has warned that major European cities including London, Paris and Berlin could be within range of Iranian missiles after Tehran reportedly launched two ballistic missiles at the joint UK-US military base on Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.

One missile is said to have failed during flight while the other was intercepted by a US warship.

The Israel Defense Forces said:

"The Iranian terrorist regime poses a global threat. Now, with missiles that can reach London, Paris or Berlin."

Defence analysts say the strike suggests Iran may now be capable of hitting targets up to around 4,000km away, far beyond previous estimates of its missile range.

A foreign affairs analyst also warned that a missile reaching Diego Garcia would represent "a strategic leap" in capability.
