Infosys does not expect the US Department of Labor’s suspension of its applications under the Permanent Labor Certification (PERM) programme to have a material impact on its operations, the IT major said in a stock exchange filing late on Saturday.
The US Department of Labor’s (USDOL) announced on Thursday that it was suspending several major global technology and IT services companies from the PERM green card programme, which enables skilled foreign workers to obtain permanent residency in the US through employer sponsorship.
Infosys said it was aware of the USDOL’s decision to suspend applications from certain companies, including Infosys, under the programme.
“We welcome the opportunity to work with the Department of Labor and related government agencies to answer any questions they may have. We do not anticipate yesterday’s announcement of such suspension to have a material impact on the organisation,” it said.
The company also highlighted its investments in developing a strong local workforce and establishing technology and innovation hubs in the US.
