Dr Ashokkumar Veeramuthu, a scientist based in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu, has been named among the World’s Top Scientists for the third year running. The list is published annually by Stanford University, USA, and Elsevier Publishers.
Veeramuthu’s work focuses on environmental and health-related research, particularly on managing waste, reducing pollution, and developing sustainable energy solutions. His research includes areas such as plastic pollution mitigation, waste management technologies, and the use of microalgae to produce clean energy and bioproducts.
He has been included in the list for 2023, 2024, and 2025, reflecting his continued contribution to scientific research in these fields. Dr Ashokkumar has published over 130 research articles in international journals and collaborates with more than 18 universities worldwide.
Veeramuthu currently serves as Professor and Head of the Centre for Waste Management and Renewable Energy at Saveetha University (SIMATS) in Chennai. He also holds visiting positions at universities in Thailand, Malaysia, and South Korea.
His academic background includes a PhD from the University of Madras, Chennai, completed in 2013. During his doctoral studies, he was awarded an Indo-Australian fellowship, enabling him to conduct research at Adelaide University in Australia. Prior to this, he earned his MPhil and MSc degrees in Plant Biotechnology.
Veeramuthu also participates actively in scientific publishing, serving as guest editor and reviewer for multiple international journals. He is also a member of the World Bioenergy Association and several other professional bodies.
The Stanford-Elsevier list ranks scientists based on citation impact and influence in their respective fields.
