Indian national dies in Israel; suspect arrested, Embassy says probe under way

Indian national Rajiv Acharya dies in Israel

NEW DELHI: The death of Indian national in Israel has triggered a police investigation, with the Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv confirming that a suspect has been arrested. The deceased was identified as Rajiv Acharya.The embassy said Israeli authorities are investigating to establish the “full facts and circumstances” of the incident, while it remains in contact with the authorities and is monitoring the case.“The Embassy of India is deeply saddened by the tragic death of Indian national, Mr Rajiv Acharya, in Israel,” the mission said in a post on X on Wednesday.The mission did not disclose the cause of Acharya’s death or provide further details about the incident.

Expressing condolences to Acharya’s family, the embassy said, “The Embassy extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and stands ready to provide all possible assistance.”It added, “The Embassy will continue to closely monitor the case and remain in contact with the concerned authorities.”The development comes amid continuing tensions in West Asia. The embassy has not indicated whether the incident was connected to the broader regional situation.

Earlier this month, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said India and Israel would continue to strengthen their ties after a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.“Thank you, my friend, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. Together we continue to strengthen the bond between Israel and India,” Netanyahu said in a post on X.

The two leaders discussed further strengthening the India-Israel Special Strategic Partnership and developments in West Asia, according to the ministry of external affairs (MEA).MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the call was initiated by the Israeli side and focused on expanding cooperation across sectors.“During the conversation, it was discussed as to how we can further strengthen this bond, this friendship that we have with Israel across various sectors,” Jaiswal said.
