Across the country, Ladakh has received maximum 112% above normal rainfall while Meghalaya the lowest 61% below normal rainfall.

India received 76.86 cm rainfall between June 4 and October 15 when the south-west monsoon was active over the country, which is 15 per cent below its long period average of 90.63 cm, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data. The south-west monsoon, after its onset over Keralam on June 4, withdrew from the entire country on October 15.

During this period, except Andaman and Nicobar islands which reported 1 per cent surplus rainfall, all the meteorological sub-divisions in the south peninsula region were deficient with a shortfall between 23 per cent and 46 per cent. As the north-east monsoon has now set in, these sub-divisions look forward to getting some rains to help the crops in winter season, particularly in non-irrigated areas.

In Central India where monsoon rainfall was 6 per cent below normal, except Maharashtra and Goa, which were deficient, all other states had either normal or excess rainfall. Maharashtra has reported 23 per cent deficit and Goa 36 per cent. On the other hand, Odisha received 23 per cent surplus rains, whereas Chhattisgarh 2 per cent shortfall. Madhya Pradesh had 7 per cent deficit and Gujarat 12 per cent below normal.

The north-west India too received 6 per cent below normal rains like Central India. Among the major agricultural states in this region, Punjab (-37 per cent), Haryana (-21 per cent) and Rajasthan (-24 per cent) reported deficient rainfall while Uttar Pradesh (+6 per cent) had normal precipitation.

The east and north-east region was 27 per cent deficient as Arunachal Pradesh (-45 per cent), Assam (-29 per cent), Bihar (-32 per cent) and Meghalaya (-61 per cent) had less rainfall. But, West Bengal has reported 2 per cent deficit and Jharkhand 6 per cent deficit rainfall between June 4 and October 15.

Across the country, Ladakh has received maximum 112 per cent above normal rainfall while Meghalaya the lowest 61 per cent below normal rainfall. In quantitative value among the states, Goa has received 196.68 cm rainfall, which is the highest in the country, while Punjab reported 28 cm, the lowest.
