LPG Gas Cylinder Shortage Crisis In India Live Updates: Amid the countrywide LPG shortage, the Centre has advised states and Union territories to monitor the LPG supplies daily and take action against violators.
From domestic households to eateries, the daily operations are severely hampered as the supply of cylinders has been hit due to the ongoing war in the Middle East.
Several restaurants in cities like Bengaluru, Kolkata, Mumbai have warned that they will have to scale down operations if the condition remains the same.
Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi stated on Thursday that steps are being taken to manage the LPG crisis and that there are opportunities emerging for India to secure extra supplies. He mentioned that due to diplomatic sensitivities, certain details about supply routes through the Hormuz Strait cannot be disclosed.
Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) issued a statement and said that the domestic households are given top priority. Requests from other sectors are being assessed by a joint committee of LPG Executive Directors from BPCL, IOC, and HPCL, with allocations based on urgency.
Meanwhile, the authorities are also conducting widespread search and seizure operations to crack down on the illegal commercial diversion and pilferage of domestic LPG cylinders.

The LPG shortage has begun affecting Indira Canteens in Bengaluru, with contractors reporting difficulties in preparing food due to a lack of cooking gas. Food prepared at the Vasanth Nagar kitchen is supplied to 14 Indira Canteens. Staff said if fresh cylinders are not delivered soon, all 14 canteens that depend on this kitchen may have to shut operations tomorrow.
