Firefighters came under fire almost immediately upon arriving at the scene on Sunday and did not know where the gunfire was coming from. On Monday, battalion chiefs John Morrison and Frank Harwood were announced as the two fallen firefighters. Coeur d’Alene fire engineer Dave Tysdal remains in the hospital. Wess Roley, 20, has been identified as the suspect in the shooting, with officials reporting he did not have a criminal record and did not leave a manifesto. Officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect, and he was found deceased, but it was not clear if the gunman was hit and killed or if he killed himself.
