Hindustan Copper Ltd. is set to begin operations at two of its key copper mines in Jharkhand — Kendadih and Rakha — within the next six months, a move expected to significantly boost the company’s production capacity.

According to sources, the Kendadih Mine is to start with an initial output of 0.22 million tonnes per annum, while the ultimate target is pegged at 0.45 million tonnes per annum. Rakha Mine, on the other hand, is set to have a production capacity of 3 million tonnes per annum once in full operation.

Both mines are undergoing a major conversion from opencast to underground operations and will have at least fifty years of life.

However, a few approvals are still pending. the lease execution is yet to completed with the Jharkhand State Government, while an EC Amendment is under the final stages of review in the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

Once operational, the two mines are expected to strengthen Hindustan Copper’s domestic production footprint, particularly as India ramps up demand for copper and other critical minerals to support energy transition and infrastructure development.
