The release of body-worn camera footage showing Henry Nowak being handcuffed as he lay dying has sparked intense political and social debate.

But who was Henry Nowak?

Mr Nowak was a first-year accountancy and finance student at Southampton University.

The 18-year-old, who grew up in Chafford Hundred, Essex, was described by a judge as a "kind, hard-working and ambitious young man".

In a statement issued after his death, his family said he had been "fully embracing university life" and had been out with his football teammates on the night he was killed.

Describing him as "our kind, intelligent and talented son", they added: "Henry was loved by all those that knew him.

"Our hearts ache when we think of the bright future he had ahead of him, full of opportunity and adventures.

"There are no words to describe just how heartbroken we are that we will never get to see him grow and fulfil his awesome potential.

"We are so proud of him and all he achieved. Our world will never be the same without our amazing Henry."

Mr Nowak is survived by his parents, Mark Nowak and Lucy Ross, and his three siblings.

His sister, Olivia Nowak, said she was "proud to be his big sister". In a Facebook post in January, she said around 600 people from the local community attended his funeral, while many others lined the street outside his former school to pay tribute.

"The amount of love that was in one room just shows how well Henry carried himself throughout his life," she said.

Mr Nowak's godmother, Kelly Hatchard, described him in a Facebook tribute as a "loving, caring, intelligent and hardworking" teen.

"To me, Henry wasn't a headline or a court case," she wrote. "He was my best friend's funny, caring, cheeky son.

"Henry had a way of making people smile without even trying. He had so much life ahead of him, so many plans, and so much love to give."
