Widespread heavy showers lashed several districts in Telangana over the 24-hour period ending 8.30 a.m. of Thursday (July 30, 2026), which prompted authorities to step up flood preparedness and emergency response measures. Bejjur in Kumaram Bheem Asifabad district recorded the highest rainfall of 183.5 mm of rain.

According to data from Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), between 8.30 a.m of July 29 and 8.30 a.m of July 30, the highest rainfall in Bejjur was followed by 171.5 mm in Jaipur (Mancherial), 170 mm in Wazeed (Mulugu), 157 mm in Palachettu (Mancherial), 153.5 mm in Sarvaipet (Jayashankar Bhupalpally), 152 mm in Eturunagaram (Mulugu), 149.8 mm in Yelkapalle (Kumaram Bheem Asifabad), 140.5 mm in Naspur (Mancherial), 132 mm in Kunaram (Peddapalli), 131 mm in Kaddam Peddur (Nirmal), 125.5 mm in Sarangapur (Jagtial) and 122.3 mm in Ichoda (Adilabad).

Red alert for five northern Telangana dists for July 30

In the special weather report released on Thursday early afternoon, India Meteorological Department-Hyderabad Centre has issued a red alert indicating very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall accompanied with strong surface winds (40-50 kmph) as very likely at isolated places in Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal and Jagtial districts on Thursday. The five districts are in northern part of the State.

And, heavy to very heavy rainfall was predicted as likely in Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla,Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu and Kamareddy districts .It has also forecast heavy rainfall in Medak, Sangareddy, Jangaon, Hanumakonda, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Vikarabad, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Siddipet and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts.

The intense rainfall led district administrations across northern Telangana to issue alerts, inspect flood-prone locations and activate emergency response mechanisms.

In Kumaram Bheem Asifabad district, Collector K. Haritha inspected floodwaters at Tumpelli Vagu and Gundi Vagu in Asifabad mandal and directed Revenue and Police officials to take all necessary precautionary measures to ensure public safety in vulnerable areas.

Bhupalapally control room

Jayashankar Bhupalpally District Collector Rahul Sharma urged residents to remain alert and advised them to avoid venturing outdoors unless absolutely necessary and cautioned those travelling in emergencies to exercise extreme care. Residents of low-lying areas were specifically warned to stay away from overflowing streams, rivulets, ponds and culverts. The Collector also announced that a 24-hour control room had been established at the Collectorate to coordinate emergency response. In Nirmal district, Collector Bhavesh Mishra directed all departments to remain on high alert and take proactive measures to minimise inconvenience to the public. He instructed officials to closely monitor vulnerable locations, assess the flood situation and remain prepared to respond swiftly to any emergencies.

Special vigil in Godavari catchment areas

Jagtial District Collector B. Satya Prasad also reviewed the situation with officials and instructed them to maintain special vigil in the Godavari catchment areas. He directed that rehabilitation centres be kept ready with all essential facilities to accommodate residents from flood-prone areas if evacuations become necessary.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad also received overnight showers, with several localities recording moderate rainfall. TGDPS data shows that Bahadurpura recorded 38.8 mm followed by 38 mm in Golconda, 36 mm in Karwan, 33 mm in Rajendranagar, 31 mm in Attapur, 28.5 mm in LB Nagar and 27.3 mm in Goshamahal.
