The Kerala High Court has sought details of the advisory committee that the State government appointed, in order to finalise guidelines for organ donation.
While hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by a 19-year old son of a woman from Thrissur who died due to a kidney ailment, the court sought details like the list of members of the committee and also its functioning. The demands raised in the PIL include the need to set up a portal under the district-level authorisation committees or under the Kerala State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (K-SOTTO), for donating and receiving organs.
The PIL further points to grey areas in organ donation, which middlemen exploit. The case has been posted for hearing on July 7.
