Dhruv Rathee during CJP protest in Bengaluru

NEW DELHI: YouTuber Dhruv Rathee on Thursday said, “I have not come here for regime change”, while participating in a protest against CEC Gyanesh Kumar, demanding his immediate resignation over alleged irregularities in the SIR, news agency PTI reported.Rathee joined CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and actor-activist Prakash Raj at Freedom Park, where they took part in a protest organised under the banner of ‘Janata Nyayalaya’ against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The protesters demanded the immediate resignation of Kumar over alleged irregularities in the SIR exercise.Addressing the gathering in Bengaluru, Rathee said, “I have not come here for regime change.”

He also alleged that there was “zero transparency and zero accountability from the EC” over the SIR exercise.Dipke said protesters would continue their agitation until Kumar stepped down. “We will hit streets, reclaim democracy, continue agitation till CEC resigns,” Dipke said.Actor Prakash Raj further demanded that the SIR exercise be scrapped, alleging that it was not merely about deletion of votes but also concerned the dignity and rights of citizens.

He also alleged that CEC Gyanesh Kumar was “acting at the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah”.A large number of women, students and other members of civil society gathered at Freedom Park, with protesters raising slogans demanding that the SIR exercise be scrapped and Kumar resign.

According to organisers, the protest was organised as a “people's tribunal” for people affected by the SIR exercise across Karnataka.

They said it would be followed by a “Chappal protest” in solidarity with women.Posters at the protest carried slogans including “Error 404 - Name Not Found”, “It's done bro, resign sir” and “Don't erase us, hear us”.Police said tight security arrangements had been put in place at the venue to prevent any untoward incident.
