BBC viewers have seen actress Sophie Willan join this year's Great British Sewing Bee as the new host.

A brand-new series of Great British Sewing Bee kicked off this month.

BBC viewers saw judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young welcome a fresh batch of amateur sewers onto the show, all hoping to impress the judges and earn a place in the final.

However, along with new faces taking on the challenges each week, fans also welcomed the addition of Sophie Willan, who has replaced Sara Pascoe on the beloved programme.

Appearing on Friday's The One Show (July 31), Clara Amfo and JB Gill congratulated Sophie on her role as she praised the two judges.

She commented: "They're amazing! They are like a double act. She's a bit like Yoda, if Yoda were a punk who really lived her life, and Patrick is just, he cycles into work every day.

"As if we don't have to get up early enough, he cycles in every day! They're just wild. They've set up this little double act."

However, people are set to see Sophie in a new light as she takes on a role in Netflix's new political thriller series The Lords' Day .

Adapted from a novel by Michael Dobbs, the six-part show will see Sophie alongside the likes of Damson Idris, Arsema Thomas, Gemma Whelan, and Timothy Spall.

Speaking about the role, she told Clara and JB: "It was mad when I got the role because I thought, this could easily be a comedy. So I decided to dye my hair to be a bit more serious, I don't know if it's worked!

"It's fabulous, I've never done anything like this before, it's really beautifully written. It's quite cathartic, really.

"It's rebellion, it's dealing with a lot of stuff that we feel, politically at the moment, and throwing that into question, so I think it will hit people."

A synopsis for the series reads: "On the State Opening of Parliament, British spy Harry Jones (Damson Idris) finds himself inside the Palace of Westminster amid a lockdown.

"As a hostage siege escalates, loyalties are tested and selfless sacrifices are made, leading to a desperate fight for survival where not everyone will emerge alive. Can Harry use his skills and training to be the country's saviour?

It's not yet known when The Lord's Day will air.
