Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), Sujata Sharma, on Wednesday (March 25, 2026) said that there has been no increase in the prices of petrol and diesel. “Do not believe in rumours,” MoPNG said.

She added that 26 States have been accorded 22,000 tonnes of commercial LPG as of date, and 2.5 lakh new PNG connections have been accorded in the last 25 days.

The Madhapur police on Tuesday (March 24, 2026) intercepted an illegal consignment of commercial gas cylinders in Pothuraju Nagar.

Acting on specific information, officers conducted a check and seized a total of 31 commercial gas cylinders that were being moved without proper authorisation. The checks were carried out as part of routine enforcement to curb illegal distribution of LPG and ensure public safety.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president MK Stalin on Wednesday (March 25) strongly criticised the Union Government over the ongoing cooking gas shortage, stating that recent remarks by Prime Minister Narendra Modi have created unnecessary panic among the public.

In a post on X, Mr. Stalin said that comparing the current situation to the COVID-19 period has alarmed people who are already struggling due to the shortage of LPG cylinders. He pointed out that the crisis has severely impacted daily life, with many restaurants shutting down and workers losing their jobs due to the disruption in gas supply.

Leading Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) clarified on Wednesday (March 25) that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, or LPG across the country, dismissing recent rumours of scarcity as “completely unfounded.”

In official statements issued to the public, OMCs confirmed that fuel supplies remain stable and that adequate stocks are currently available to meet national demand without any disruption.

Panic buying triggered by rumours of a fuel shortage has led to a three-fold spike in petrol and diesel sales across Telangana, causing temporary stock exhaustion at several fuel stations, the Telangana Petroleum Dealers Association (TPDA) said on Wednesday (March 25, 2026).
