Former NRL and Queensland State of Origin player Chris Walker has been charged in relation to alleged domestic violence offences.

The 46-year-old was arrested on Saturday night after police were tipped off that a man wanted for alleged domestic violence offences was "hiding in a backyard" on the Gold Coast.

Police said they attended an address shortly after receiving the information and located him there.

On Sunday evening, Queensland Police confirmed they had charged a 46-year-old man with domestic violence-related offences, including assault, using a carriage service to menace or harass, and wilful damage.

Walker has been taken into police custody and is due to face Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.

Walker, a Brisbane-born athlete, is a well-known figure in Australian rugby league.

He represented Queensland in State of Origin and played for multiple clubs, including the Brisbane Broncos, South Sydney Rabbitohs, Sydney Roosters, Melbourne Storm, Gold Coast Titans, and Parramatta Eels.
