Former Arsenal defender Lee Dixon believes a deal that would see Marcus Rashford and Myles Lewis-Skelly swap clubs would benefit all parties.

Manchester United forward Rashford is back at Old Trafford after loan spells at Aston Villa and Barcelona and could make his first appearance for his boyhood club since December 2024 in Wednesday night’s friendly against Leeds in Dublin.

His long-term future remains uncertain, however, leading to speculation he could make a late move away from Old Trafford before the transfer window closes on September 1.

Lewis-Skelly could also be heading out of the exit door following Arsenal’s capture of former Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes. The 19-year-old played in midfield to great effect towards the end of last season and can also operate on the left of a back four.

Lewis-Skelly has been linked with United and with Arsenal needing a left-sided forward following their failed pursuit of Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Jr, it has been suggested the two players could change clubs this summer.

Dixon, who made over 450 appearances for the North London club and won the league title four times, believes it’s a rare case of an exchange deal that would suit both the players and clubs involved.

He told BestBettingSites: “Would I swap them? You know what, I probably would. And that’s nothing against Myles Lewis-Skelly; it’s about giving him the freedom to go and expand his game elsewhere.

“With Marcus Rashford, he’s a player who needs an arm around his shoulder, and [Arsenal boss Mikel] Arteta would be great for him. Give him that love, give him the freedom to play on that left side, and yeah, I’d like to see him in an Arsenal shirt. 

“I have my reservations about whether he’s consistently a top-class player, but based on what Arsenal have in the squad now, he’d be a good addition.”
