AISA claims Neha Bora detained at RK Puram police station

Delhi Police said around 150 people had been detained as part of efforts to maintain law and order

NEW DELHI: The All India Students' Association (AISA) on Friday claimed that its national president Neha Bora was being detained at Delhi's RK Puram police station.Advocate Supantha Sinha, who met Bora at the police station along with other lawyers, said she was taken into custody around 5pm, but her location was disclosed only around 10.30pm.

He alleged that the lawyers were not allowed to consult her in private and that the police had not clarified what action they intended to take."Neha Bora has been detained here. She was taken into custody around 5.00pm, and it was only around 10.30pm that we were informed about her whereabouts," Sinha said."For five hours, no one knew where Neha Bora was," he added.Sinha said the police had permitted the lawyers to meet Bora shortly before his statement, but officers remained present throughout the interaction.

He said the legal team had been asked to wait for further information before deciding on its next course of action.Earlier, AISA and the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) had questioned the whereabouts of Bora and CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, alleging that the police had not provided timely information about their detention or access to legal counsel.

AISA had said Bora was initially taken to an Anti-Narcotics Task Force facility in south-west Delhi before being moved elsewhere.

Former AISA president and CPI(ML) Liberation leader N Sai Balaji had questioned the police over the reported change in her location.CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas said an AISA representative had informed him that Bora was picked up by Delhi Police at Mandi House while on her way to join the 'Lehra Do Tiranga' protest.Dipke was detained from Jhandewalan while travelling towards Connaught Place.Delhi Police said around 150 people had been detained as part of efforts to maintain law and order and ensure smooth traffic movement amid the protests.
