Downdetector, which tracks online outages, showed a sharp rise in reports on Sunday morning as users across the UK complained of issues with the Facebook website and Instagram app.
Many said they were seeing an "Account Temporarily Unavailable" message when trying to log into Facebook through a web browser.
Meta has yet to comment as thousands of users continue to report issues across its platforms.

Facebook reports ease
The number of Facebook users reporting issues appears to be falling, although thousands are still affected.
Downdetector showed 3,949 Facebook reports at 10.07am, down from an earlier peak of more than 5,300.
Instagram reports have also begun to ease slightly after peaking at 3,459, with 3,259 reports recorded at 10.07am.

Users met with 'Account Temporarily Unavailable' message
Some Facebook users have shared screenshots showing the error message they are seeing when trying to access the platform through a web browser.
The message reads: "Account Temporarily Unavailable. Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes."

Reports emerge from around the world
The disruption does not appear to be limited to the UK, with users in several other countries also saying they were experiencing issues.
One user in Perth, Australia, wrote on Downdetector: "Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly."
Another user in Texas said they had received the same alert, while a third in Myanmar reported an identical experience.

Some Instagram users said they initially feared they had been hacked after being unexpectedly logged out or finding they were unable to load content.

Instagram users take to X to report issues
Instagram users have taken to X to complain about problems with the app as reports of an outage continue to mount.
One user posted: "is instagram down again what is it so slow. It won't load any posts."
Another wrote: "is instagram down or something because no posts are coming up on my feed and when i refresh it, it says 'welcome to instagram'."
A third user said: "Is anyone else's Instagram acting super weird today? Literally nothing is loading on any of my accounts.
"It logged me out of my account and it took me like five minutes to get back in. I got so scared."

Meta has not yet publicly commented on the reported issues affecting Facebook and Instagram.

Users have taken to Downdetector to share their frustration as the outage continues.
One person wrote: "Facebook is down yet again."
Another said: "As soon as I log in to the website it says Account Temporarily Unavailable. The mobile app is fine but this is the 3rd time in a month this has happened on FB."
