Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in Indonesia's East Nusa Tenggara province was belching volcanic ash clouds 18 kilometres into the sky on Monday after an explosive eruption, the country's volcanology agency said. "There was a quake, ashes, and it caused a visibility problem it was almost dark. At least only about 10 meters of visibility, I couldn't even look at my neighbour. And also a strong wind at the time," Gervasius Vence, a 51-year-old villager, described the moment when the volcano erupted. At least 24 flights to and from the Indonesian resort island of Bali were cancelled after the eruption, officials said. Indonesia sits on the Pacific "Ring of Fire," an area of high seismic activity atop multiple tectonic plates. The country has more than 120 active volcanoes.
