The Erode City Municipal Corporation has revised the charges for new underground drainage (UGD) connections under the Tamil Nadu Urban Local Bodies Act, 1998, and the Erode City Municipal Corporation Building Rules, 2020.
According to a release, residential buildings with a plinth area of up to 500 sq. ft. will be charged ₹7,500 for a new connection. The charges have been fixed at ₹10,000 for buildings measuring 501-1,200 sq. ft., ₹12,500 for those measuring 1,201-2,400 sq. ft., and ₹15,000 for buildings exceeding 2,401 sq. ft.
For commercial and industrial buildings, the charges have been fixed at ₹15,000 for buildings up to 500 sq. ft., ₹20,000 for those measuring 501-1,200 sq. ft., ₹25,000 for buildings with an area of 1,201-2,400 sq. ft., and ₹30,000 for buildings exceeding 2,401 sq. ft.
The Corporation said the connection charges cover the cost of providing the sewer connection from the main line up to the property boundary. Applicants are also required to pay ₹100 each towards the application, inspection and connection fees. The civic body has instructed applicants to submit all prescribed documents along with their applications to facilitate early processing. It also said property owners should construct the inspection chamber and complete the internal sewer pipeline within their premises before applying for a UGD connection, the release added.
