This year's Emmys is already causing drama two months before the award ceremony. The iconic institution, which celebrates outstanding work in television across a wide range of categories, including acting, directing, writing, is back for its 78th year.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting for this year's nominees to be revealed, with huge hits like HBO's The Pitt said to be a shoo-in for success. The smash hit hospital drama has bagged a staggering 25 nods after the breakout first season of series cleaned up at the 2025 Emmys. The Pitt is joined by shows, including The Diplomat, The Gilded Age, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Paradise, Pluribus, Slow Horses and Your Friends & Neighbours, all hoping to crowned victorious in September after bagging a number of nominations.
However, while some shows have excelled themselves with votes ahead of the ceremony, others have been snubbed, with one huge TV offering and two of its stars being blanked by the Emmys 2026...
Stranger Things
With its cult-like following, fans thought Stranger Things would definitely be nominated for best drama series. However, the send-off season — which proved polarising with some viewers — was blanked from the above-the-line categories.

The Bear
Hugely popular series, The Bear, which follows chef Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto as he returns to Chicago to run his family's Italian beef sandwich shop, has bagged a nominee for Outstanding Comedy Series.
However, actor Jeremy Allen White, a two-time winner who was nominated for each of the show’s first three seasons, has missed out on a lead actor recognition. The same goes for Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who earned previously earned tow gongs at the awards for supporting actor.
Euphoria
Euphoria, starring Sydney Sweeney, has been been a huge hit with fans. However, after returning in the past year for highly anticipated final seasons, but crowd-pleaser was unable able to make it into the category for the Emmy's top award: Outstanding Drama Series.
The psychological drama for HBO also stars Zendaya as drug-addicted teenager Rue Bennett.
Rooster
Steve Carrell's Rooster, a popular series about sexual politics in college life almost failed to win any nominations. Thankfully, The Office star saved complete embarrassment for the show after bagging a nod for Best Actor.
It is hoped that Steve, a 12-time nominee, will be declared victorious at the Emmys in September, giving the show at least one gong to celebrate.
Only Murders in the building - Selena Gomez
While Selena Gomez's co-star Martin Short has been nominated for lead actor in a comedy series every year since the popular mystery comedy debuted in 2021, the singer has only netted one nomination over the show's long run. In 2026, she was snubbed from the lead actress in a comedy category.
Matlock - Kathy Bates
Despite her nomination in 2025 for her acclaimed turn in CBS's Matlock reboot, Misery star Kathy Bates was left out of the nominations entirely for her turn in the show's second season.
In the series, the Academy Award-winning actress plays Madeline “Matty” Matlock, a brilliant lawyer who goes undercover at a prestigious law firm to investigate her daughter’s death and expose corporate wrongdoing.
