The Election Commission of India announced the schedule for Keralam Assembly elections.

ECI Announces polling dates for Keralam Assembly Elections (AFP)

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday announced the schedule for the Assembly elections in Keralam. Polling in the state will be conducted in one phase, with voting beginning on April 9, 2026, and results to be announced on May 4, 2026.

The schedule was announced during a press conference in New Delhi, where officials declared the key dates along with a detailed phase-wise polling plan.

Election Schedule

According to the Election Commission, the election process will follow the standard sequence of notifications, nominations and scrutiny before voters head out to cast their votes

Issue of notification: 16.03.2026 (Monday)

Last date for filing nominations:  23.03.2026 (Monday)

Scrutiny of nominations: 24.03.2026 (Tuesday)

Last date for withdrawal of candidature: 26.03.2026 (Thursday)

Date(s) of poll: 09.04.2026 (Thursday)

Counting Of Votes

The counting of votes will take place on May 4, 2026.

Model Code Of Conduct Into Force 

With the announcement of key election dates in Keralam, the Model Code of Conduct comes into force in the state with an immediate effect, implying the political parties, candidates, and government officials need to function in line with the set guidelines to ensure free and fair polling.

Kerala 2021 Assembly Elections

In the 140 member Legislative Assembly of Kerala, the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) secured a decisive mandate, winning 99 seats, while the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) managed 41 seats in the 2021 assembly polls.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which had opened its account in the state in 2016, failed to retain its lone seat.
