Worldwide sales of dog or cat food exports by country totaled US$26.7 billion in 2024.

That dollar value reflects a 52% acceleration compared to $17.6 billion five years earlier in 2020.

Year over year, globally exported dog and cat food grew by 7.1% compared to $25 billion starting in 2023.

The 5 biggest exporters of pet food for canines and felines are Germany, Thailand, United States of America, Poland and France. Added together, that cohort of pet food suppliers collected almost half (49.4%) of revenues for all dog or cat food exported during 2024.

Comparing data from a continental perspective, countries in Europe sold the most dog or cat food on international markets during 2024 with exports valued at $17.4 billion or nearly two-thirds (65.3%) of the world’s total. In second place were exporters in Asia at 18.6% while another 12.8% of worldwide dog or cat food shipments originated from North America.

Smaller percentages came from shippers in Latin America (1.8%) excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean, Oceania (1.4%) mostly New Zealand and Australia, and Africa (0.2%).

For research purposes, the 6-digit Harmonized Tariff System code prefix is 230910 for dog or cat food put up for retail sale.

Those countries that posted declines in their exported dog or cat food sales were: France (down -5.5% from 2023), Belgium (down -4.5%), Netherlands (down -3%), United Kingdom (down -1.9%) and Germany (down -0.3%).
