DMK takes dig at Vijay over Trisha's front-row seat at I-Day event

DMK mouthpiece attacks Vijay

NEW DELHI: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has launched a sharp attack on Tamil Nadu chief minister C Joseph Vijay over actor Trisha Krishnan's presence at the state's Independence Day celebrations, questioning her front-row seat and the exchange of salutes between the two during the official ceremony at Fort St George. The attack came through the DMK mouthpiece Murasoli, whose editorial took aim at Vijay under the headline, “fear that came to CM in three months.”Vijay had hoisted the national flag at the Independence Day celebrations in Chennai on August 15, with actor Trisha seated in the front row alongside his parents. The strongly-worded editorial began with a pointed remark: "CM Vijay's pride was blown away when he hoisted the flag on Independence Day."Though the editorial did not name Trisha, its reference to the actress was clear. Taking a veiled swipe at the chief minister, Murasoli wrote, "The scene of the actress sitting in the front row and the two of them saluting each other could not be tolerated by those who voted for him. The person who tries to justify it by making it a matter of honour is the chief minister of Tamil Nadu today."

The editorial sharpened its attack further, saying, "In just three months, he has become fearful about his influence and position."

The broadside against TVK chief Vijay comes weeks after DMK leader

Udhayanidhi Stalin

was taken for police questioning over remarks made during a protest.Udhayanidhi later clarified that his comments were not directed at the actor. On the same day, the

Madras high court

granted him bail.
