Delhi Satya Niketan Building Collapse: Days after seven people were killed in a building collapse in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area, police have arrested the operator of the paying guest accommodation that was functioning from the building. The arrest comes after the property-owning family was also apprehended in connection with the case. Police questioning has focused on the building’s maintenance, its lease to the PG operator and possible safety lapses. Meanwhile, the tragedy has raised fresh concerns over the shortage of student accommodation in Delhi. The civic body has also identified 62 buildings across the national capital as dangerous, with action already taken against several structures. Students have staged protests in Satya Niketan, demanding accountability, safety audits of PG accommodations and better hostel facilities. Delhi’s civic authorities are now prioritising action against other buildings deemed unsafe.
