Delhi Capitals (DC) have strengthened their coaching setup ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 season by bringing in an experienced former international cricketer as their new bowling coach. The appointment marks another key addition to the franchise’s revamped support staff as they look to build a stronger unit for the upcoming campaign. The new bowling coach will work alongside the head coach and batting coach as Delhi aim to improve on their recent IPL performances.

Former Sri Lanka pacer joins Delhi Capitals coaching staff

Delhi Capitals announced the appointment of Chaminda Vaas through a social media video featuring the former Sri Lankan fast bowler. Vaas enjoyed an illustrious international career, finishing with 355 wickets in 111 Test matches and 400 wickets in 322 ODIs. A member of Sri Lanka’s 1996 ODI World Cup-winning squad, the left-arm pacer was known for his accuracy, ability to swing the new ball and effectiveness across different playing conditions.

The former fast bowler also brings considerable coaching experience to the role. He has worked with Sri Lanka’s senior team and feeder squads, served as Ireland’s bowling coach during the 2016 T20 World Cup and worked as a consultant with New Zealand’s fast bowlers. He has also held coaching positions with the Sri Lankan national side in subsequent years. His appointment gives Delhi an experienced international campaigner to guide their bowling unit as they look to put together a stronger campaign in the upcoming season.

Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh also join DC coaching setup

Delhi Capitals appointed former India captain Sourav Ganguly as their head coach on October 6. Ganguly, who has been associated with the franchise since 2019, will take charge of an IPL team as head coach for the first time after previously leading Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 league. Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh joined the coaching setup as assistant and batting coach, marking his first formal coaching role.

The coaching changes come after Delhi finished sixth in IPL 2026 and missed the playoffs for the second consecutive season. The franchise had also parted ways with its previous coaching group following two seasons under Hemang Badani. With Ganguly leading the coaching staff, Yuvraj working with the batters and Vaas overseeing the bowling unit, Delhi will hope the revamped setup can help them challenge for their maiden IPL title in 2027.
