The Andhra Pradesh High Court has extended the questioning of Bihar cadre Inspector General of Police M. Sunil Kumar Naik till March 12.

Following the directions of the High Court, the A.P. police have been questioning the IPS officer for the past five days. The time granted earlier for questioning was to end on March 9. Mr. Sunil Kumar Naik, who was on deputation in Andhra Pradesh, had served as Deputy Inspector General of Police, CID, during the previous government when former Narsapuram MP K. Raghu Ramakrishna Raju was allegedly subjected to custodial torture in 2021.

Superintendent of Police A. R. Damodar questioned Mr. Sunil Kumar Naik in connection with the alleged custodial torture of Mr. Raghu Ramakrishna Raju.

The investigation officers reportedly asked Mr. Sunil Kumar Naik why the then MP, who is now the Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, was allegedly tortured in custody and under whose directions the act was carried out. Police also reportedly reconstructed the scene at the CID office on Monday and posed several questions to the IGP in connection with the case.
